Some people have advantages with
anything goal-oriented because they just naturally have a gift to do really
well. For instance, I’m good at tennis, even though I have never played before.
The coach says that I’m a natural. Certain people just have it in their genes
to be good at something. Most of the time, they can’t help it.
Gladwell’s
opinion is that people aren’t born with goal-oriented talents. He believes that
people work for their achievements. I would have to agree and disagree with
him. I would agree with him because if you work hard for something, it can pay
off. On the other hand, I disagree because sometimes people have natural
talents and they can’t control them. Gladwell’s chapter did make me re-think my
response to the daily question. To make his points, Gladwell used the player
roster of the 2007 Medicine Hat Tigers and the study made by Kelly Bedard and
Elizabeth Dhuey. They are convincing resources because it shows that once you
get in honors classes, then you just keep being ahead. It also shows that
higher-level people tend to succeed more. In the end, Gladwell changed my
thoughts a little bit on if people have advantages with anything goal-oriented.
Great detail
