Some people do have advantages
such as age, experience, and ability that is passed in your genes. If you were
born a year before your body is more mature then others who are younger. Also
if someone who plays longer is better because they practice more and have
better coaching, such as john Elway’s son has a good coach because his dad
played in the NFL, In johns Elway genes athletic helps him become really good. Gladwell’s ideas
is that age effects maturity and how people play. I agree with galdwell because
age does make a huge effect with body size. No it didn’t affect my decision because
I already know age does make a huge difference. He used rosters as his
evidence.

Yes, some people have advantages. As an example, in
basketball some people are tall. Also in most sports some people work harder
than you and start earlier than you. As said in Outliers, Gladwell says that
age is a factor in advantages. As a matter of fact it is, because most people
just look at the skill instead of the age. The convincing point he made was
when he put school in the factor.

The goal I have accomplished was
getting into the Jazz Pack in middle school. I do not think people have certain
advantages like other people do. I think everyone has equal advantages. People
only say they have better advantages but only because other people work harder
than others to accomplish their goals and conflicts. In my case, people
practice extra on their instrument to get into the Jazz band.
In the book outliers, Gladwell
expresses that people who are older excel at more activities than others who
are younger. Gladwell’s opinion on the daily question is that older people do
have advantages over their younger peers. After reading Gladwell’s opinion of
what he has to say about advantages changed mine overall and I do agree with
him. His chapter did cause me to rethink of the daily question because of what
he has to say about the disadvantages younger people have. The sources that he
made are physical activities where the older children mature faster than
younger ones and have an advantage over them. Older children get placed on
higher ranked teams which means they practice a lot more and play more games
during the season. His sources were convincing enough to change my opinion.

One thing
that I've done that is competitive was helping compete in a marlin tournament.
My uncle was one of the many boats in the tournament. I was one of the crew
members helping the client’s fish and also teaching them how to fish. This was
a tournament that usually pros could only partake in. My uncle had one of the
most popular boats in the Florida Keys. But his trolling for big fish skills
are not among the best unlike the others. The other boats advantages were that
they had more experience and have been fishing longer then my uncle.
I agree with Gladwell’s opinion that older
people have advantages over the younger people. I believe this because the
older fisherman knew were to go to find the marlins and other fish. While my
uncle fished in one area. Gladwell’s opinion was also correct because one of
the older fisherman did end up winning the tournament and winning the prize
money.

When you’re doing a sport, whether its racing Motocross,
playing Basketball, or kicking a soccer ball, some people can definitely have advantages on you or others. One reason why is the person could’ve been
playing longer than you, which means that they would have more experience.
Another reason is that someone could be born with the talent, or just simply
become great at the sport. Which could help them. Overall, you or someone else
can have an advantage at a sport, or even multiple ones. Now to the Outliers
book. Gladwell (author), has many opinions and influences on the book. Gladwell’s
opinion seems to be that if you want to succeed, you need to work as hard as
you can, because if you want something, it’s not just going to come to you, you’re
going to have to actually work for it. I agree with his opinion on the question
because he’s right. It’s like this: Just because your Dad was a pro in hockey, doesn’t
mean that you’re going to get the free score and get in even when you don’t work
for it. Because think about it, someone else will work the Heart and to make it
into the pros, and then you don’t work for it at all and still get into it. The
sources that Gladwell used were convincing because what he was trying to say
was very true. Although things can get hard, don’t quit and give up, because if
you believe in yourself, you can make it happen, no matter who doubts you.

I
think that some people do have advantages when it comes to competition and
sports. Some advantages are genetic and some are just formed out of hard work
and dedication. Someone who is in gymnastics and is double jointed will
probably be a little better and naturally more flexible than someone who has worked hard to become flexible
and to be better. It is the same situation with other sports as well, such as:
football, hockey, track, swimming, lacrosse and soccer. Some are just born
great and others have to work for it.
Gladwell’s opinion is that you cannot be nothing and
get to something. That we a huge part of who we are and what we do we owe to
our parents and in some cases our country. I do agree with Gladwell’s opinion
we do need help to become something that is great that we cannot do it on our
own.
Better Advantages
Yes some people who have raw talent
are better than other that have to work for it and practice many times a day. Kids
who have the talent don’t need to work for it they just have to show up and practice
compared to the kids that have to work to get a spot on the team. The sport is
all about the best of the best and if you don’t make the cut you aren’t good
enough but many kids who are gifted at the sport.
After reading “The Mathew Effect” Gladwells
opinion was that people who are born in the beginning of the year are more talented/
gifted because they are older and get put through things rather than the
younger people. I agree because the older person is always chose over the
younger person in most cases. This chapter did make me rethink my daily question
because it is true that younger people are better/stronger. He used a roster of
a hockey team to make his point and education gifted classes. Yes his sources
were well chosen and were convincing.
